I haven’t done anything else but review today and it’s almost 3 in the afternoon. It’d probably be good to shower at some point. Maybe.

The Stolen Hope Episode 6 was posted on November 29, 2015. It clocks it just a bit under ten minutes long, and with that said, I’m Knightmare, and let’s get started!

The episode opens on Vixy and Aris, with Aris looking solemn over murdering a kitty cat. I, too, would feel pretty shitty about doing this. Ya jerk. They mention something about a curse, and Aris says the curse has been passed down to him. He asks Vixy if he’s like this mysterious ‘him’ [clip] and she responds saying no, but also sort of says yeah. Aris continues to struggle with self-doubt over what he’s doing, and, again, rightfully so. What he’s doing appears to be messed up. I don’t understand why he’s doing it. We fade to black, though, and I have my hopes up for some explanations.

After the opening, we see Aris as a kit, where he plays with his sister—HEY. This Voice Actor played in Blood Brothers! Hiya, dude! (coughs) anyway

We see him playing with his sister, and they play Darks and Lights? And the role of Darks isn’t the role either of them want? Wow, that is some messed up self-image the Darks got.

As they’re playing, Ares (goodness, sorry for mispronouncing his name for like, a million episodes) tackles his father’s tail, and his father lashes out, sending him flying into the wall where Ares gets a terrible cut on his head. His sister wants to take him to see a doctor, but Ares refuses, wanting to show his father that he’s big and strong just like him. As the siblings talk, their father interrupts and takes his daughter away. Ares follows, however, and overhears a conversation debating on whether or not his sister should live. An intense scene, to be sure, one that would be even better if some of the guest voice actors were as strong as the rest of the cast at this point. I specifically love as the sister begs for mercy, and we see Ares watching with horror-filled eyes. It’s really intense.

Their father finally gives in to his council and kills his only daughter. A bit anticlimactic for the build up we were receiving—I almost would’ve loved for it to have been dramatized some more, and perhaps the only change would be having the father’s voice actor be more vicious, or angry at his council when he relents.

However, Ares makes a sound and his father hears, to which a chase begins. However, Ares is caught, and the voice actor gives a solid performance as he angrily and tearfully tells his father that he saw everything, and that his sister didn’t have to die. This is where his father tears one of Ares’ ears, and says [clip “You’ll end up like your mother”]. Does anyone have a spray bottle? Just…just bad. Bad kitty.

The episode ends here, with an incredibly fitting song playing along with the credits.

Overall, an increasingly better episode from Lem. We get backstory for Ares, which is always awesome to see for antags and villains. Again, there were issues, and the animation quality in this wasn’t overly high, as Lem notes in their description of the video. But the writing is getting better. And honestly, if the writing is solid, I can enjoy pretty much anything.

Do you agree with me? Maybe you hate everything I just said! Let’s have a discussion about it in the comment section below. Want to draw some expressions for me to use in my next review? There’s a ref of my character in the description below.
